2010 Guangzhou Asian Games Announces Shortlisted Torch Designs
Organisers of the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou have announced that two Asian Games Torch designs, named The Tide and Exploit, have been shortlisted for official use before and during the event, which takes place in November next year.
“The torch is an important symbol of an Asian Games, embodying its vision and the host city’s image,” says an official release. “[The organisers] engaged a number of expert teams experienced in design and development in the project. After rounds of selection, two designs have been shortlisted for the Games Torch.”
The Tide is described as “tall and straight in terms of shape while dynamic in terms of image. The upper part of the exterior of the torch is pierced with Guangzhou’s delicate ivory carving techniques. The pierced part looks like rising and flowing flames.” Exploit has been designed with elements of the Games’ symbols and core patterns, featuring the colour orange, “a major colour representing the Games.” It comprises two parts – “a silvery white shell with a rising and dynamic image and an orange inner container covered by the shell.”
