Around Shanghai: The Little Mermaid, vintage design, and various closings and openings

  • Copenhagen’s iconic Little Mermaid statue is now bound for Shanghai, where she will grace the Danish pavilion at the World Expo for the entire six months.   • Another one bites the dust: Des Lys, which was on Xinle Lu for a good five years, is now shutting down (future unknown). They’ll be holding a closing party on Monday that’ll feature sangria, punch, white and red wines and some snacks as well. [SmartShanghai]
  • In restaurant opening news: apparently Old Town will get a new restaurant called Yu Shanghai, which will feature an “ensemble of exquisite local delicacies, enthralling theatrical performance, captivating multimedia presentation and daring decor that entice all sense,” according to its press release. It’ll be opening May 1. [The Open Press]
  • Also opening around that time, Italian luxury brand Salvatore Ferragamo’s largest Asian specialty store. Besides lifting the curtain on a 680 square meter showspace, Ferragamo will also have a “Creation Corner” and launch a specially designed limited edition handbag. [China Retail News]
